Beat The Dinner-And-A-Movie Blues

Valentine’s Day is only two weeks away! If you’ve already been trying to dream up the perfect date but can’t quite get it, I’ve got five great ideas for you.

I’m a huge fan of going to the movies, maybe because I’m just old-fashioned, but I also really like the popcorn. Anyone who has dated me came to learn this really quickly. Everyone knows that Valentine’s Day is the ultimate movie date night, but for some of us, the cost and the unoriginality might be a little daunting. No worries. I, the queen of hopeless-romantic-dreaming, have dreamt up the perfect dinner-and-a-movie date for you to impress your Valentine with. If any of the words I used in this paragraph reminded you of your Valentine, then read on, take any or all of my five ideas, and dazzle him/her with your disgustingly-romantic-perfect date!!

1. Make a homemade dinner. Everybody appreciates something that took time and effort, so if you know how to cook anything, even if it’s just grilling some veggies, do it! This meal will be more memorable and meaningful to both of you, and it’s more cost-effective.

2. If the weather’s good, have the dinner outside in your backyard OR find a romantic park and take an evening picnic. There’s just something about the ambiance of the night-sky, the stars, and the quietness of being outside together in the evening. If you want to be really fancy, set up some Christmas lights in your backyard and set up some speakers to play some sweet music. And sunset time is the absolute best time.

3. Wine is great and all, but if you don’t have access to it or don’t want to fog the memories, opt for some sparkling cider. This way you’ll both remember every sweet nothing that you whisper in each other’s ear, and there’s no risk of throw-up or sleepiness to end the night too early.

4. Movie night at home. Go pick up some popcorn from your local theater (don’t worry, I’ve done it enough times that I can pretty much guarantee they’ll let you) and bring it home. That way you can snuggle in the comfort of your own couch but the experience will be that much better.

5. If you are watching a movie that is special to both of you, maybe purchase a gift that somehow corresponds to that movie. A stuffed animal of one of the characters, an action figure, or a poster are all great ideas that will help him/her remember this most special of nights that you took the effort to create.

So, there you have it. Micheline’s dream date. I guarantee success (not read: sex) in your (short-term) future together, because anybody with any sense of romance will love it.

Now where's my popcorn??

-Micheline
